Many of you may have noticed that the series has been placed on hiatus, and I wanted to explain why and share some thoughts about its future.

A Project from the Heart

This podcast has been a labor of love for me. I've spent countless hours researching episodes, uncovering fascinating stories about radio's golden age, and working to create content that would both inform and entertain our community of old-time radio enthusiasts. My vision was to create a comprehensive resource that would celebrate the rich history of American radio.

Is this Podcast of Interest to You

A lot of effort goes into each of the episodes. Including researching, writing, editing, and all the other stuff, it took up most of my week. I really didn't mind this as I LOVE old-time radio and so diving so deeply into it was a pleasure as long as other folk were benefiting. However, if there's not much interest in the podcast, then I figure maybe I am better focusing on other avenues.

The Voice Challenge

One of the main challenges I encountered was finding the right voice for narration. For various reasons, my voice and Joy's were just not right, and definitely not the style and tone you'd have enjoyed listening to. So, I opted for a female voice that I felt captured the nostalgic spirit of the material.

I liked her voice and felt it complemented the content, but I've received feedback indicating that some members found the voice less appealing than I did. This mixed reception has prompted me to step back and reconsider the approach.

Exploring Options

One suggestion was hiring a professional voice artist, which would certainly be ideal. However, the financial reality is that professional voiceover work would cost hundreds of dollars per episode, potentially adding up to tens of thousands of dollars annually—far beyond our current budget constraints.
