We’re almost there, but there's still lots of fun stuff to do.
I hope this message finds you all in great spirits. It’s been a busy and exciting few months here at RUSC Towers, and I am thrilled to share the fantastic progress we’ve made in bringing our beloved site back to life for you. It's been a tiring time for sure, and there's been a lot of burning the candle at both ends. Unfortunately, these days, the burning of the candle at both ends often also involves some unscheduled nodding off, and trust me, matchsticks really don't help.
But it has been super rewarding too, and I feel more excited and passionate about old-time radio than ever.
Bringing It All Together
I’m pleased to say we’ve now restored nearly all of the original core functionality! So your favorite old-time radio audio files, show descriptions, and series overviews are all back, ready for you to explore and enjoy. It feels great to see everything fitting back into place, like putting together a much-loved jigsaw puzzle.
But there's still lots to do, so we're definitely not putting our feet up. We've spent hours this past week working on the huge list of all the people involved in the shows, such as the actors, writers, directors, etc. It has been a huge challenge to piece the data back together again, but I'm pleased to say we're making great progress and should have that back online soon.
On the Horizon: RUSC Radio
Over the last week or two, our major efforts have been on rebuilding RUSC Radio, which is almost ready to switch live. This isn’t just a restoration—it’s a major enhancement. I think it looks so much better, which it should, as it has been completely rewritten from the ground up and will let us do some exciting things going forward. I can't wait for you to experience it in its renewed glory.
Thank you for your support.
I know I have said it before, but I am going to say it again.
Your patience, understanding, and encouragement have been invaluable during this period of rebuilding. Every message of support, every suggestion, and every word of encouragement reminded us why we built RUSC in the first place. It’s your passion and love for old-time radio that fuels us—and the fact that you are probably the nicest bunch of people anyone could know.
The resilience and positivity of our community have been truly inspiring, proving that together we can overcome any hurdle. We couldn’t have done this without you, and for that, we are deeply grateful.
A Peek into the Future
While steering this ship back on course, I’ve also had the pleasure of diving into some fantastic new old shows. One of the great things about old-time radio is that you can listen to it while doing other things, so while I've been busy restoring data, I've also been listening to some great shows that I've never spent time with before.
I’ve discovered a trove of hidden gems, and I can't wait to introduce you to these captivating broadcasts, each offering a unique glimpse into the past, but I've got a bit more tweaking and restoring to do before I can put my feet up and write that kind of editorial.
Thank you for being the heart of our wonderful community. The best is yet to come, and I’m incredibly excited for what lies ahead!
Happy listening,
Ned
